About the WEC indicators

These energy efficiency indicators have been prepared by Enerdata for the WEC Committee on Energy Efficiency Policies and Indicators in partnership with ADEME. The main objective of the Committee work is to promote and support development, introduction and implementation of energy efficiency policies around the world, taking into account the international experience, including the evaluation of the impact of energy efficiency policies and measures on the actual energy efficiency performance of national economies, industries and other economic activities and various consumer groups. Around 30 energy efficiency indicators have been produced by main world region and WEC member countries

How to use this interface

  • Browse in the selection tree in the left column
  • Select a data serie by clicking
  • The map and graph are displayed for the selected data serie
  • Click on a world region to view country detail
  • Pass the cursor over a country / zone to view the latest data
  • Export data to Excel and maps by clicking on the appropriate button
  • A country ranking by region is displayed for each data serie selected (left column)
  • A glossary is also available for a better understanding and analysis

Highlights

  • The energy consumption has increased much slower than the GDP since 2004
  • Energy productivity improvements since 1990 have helped avoid consumption of 3.6 Gtoe of primary energy and CO2 emissions of 8 Gt by 2008
  • CO2 emissions from energy use were 40% higher in 2008 than in 1990 at world level
